Unannounced Visitor Safety

4/26/2020

If an individual arrives at your door unannounced and tries to sell you something or requests access to your home, you determine what happens.
  • Never open your door to a stranger.
  • Make sure you know who is on the other side before opening.
  • Contact law enforcement if in doubt of who is at your door.
Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD)
  • To report a life-threatening emergency please Dial 911.
  • To report all other crimes or if you have questions, please call the non-emergency number, 719-444-7000. This number is staffed 24 hours a day, every day.

If you feel it is a legitimate visit (perhaps arriving at your request), ask for identification. Businesses that provide home service have their employees carry photo identification with an I.D. number. You can call the business and confirm their identity.

Do not provide your credit or debit card number or any other personal information to any caller or visitor without knowing their true identity.

Colorado Springs Solicitation Ordinance allows for residents to protect themselves from unwanted solicitation on private or residential property.
9.2.111: SOLICITATION PROHIBITED: Paragraph C. 2. It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in soliciting on any private or residential property after having been asked to leave, or after having been asked to refrain from soliciting, by the owner or other person lawfully in possession of the property. Displaying a "No Soliciting" sign constitutes a request to refrain from soliciting.

Hammersmith Not Visiting Homes

4/26/2020

A CRITICAL Safety Notice for Pine Creek Residents:

The Pine Creek Homeowners Association Board has received notification that there is someone going around door-to-door in the neighborhood misrepresenting themselves either as belonging to Hammersmith (our Community Association Management company) or as being sent from Hammersmith.  The individuals are fabricating a story to attempt to gain entrance into the house for a specified maintenance action, or they attempt to sell a service to the homeowner.  Neither of these situations are credible or legal.

It is imperative that all homeowners know that nobody from Hammersmith will be knocking on homeowner doors unannounced.  If someone approaches your home posing as a representative of Hammersmith, do not allow them access, and report them to the police.  We would appreciate if  you would please also notify Hammersmith via PineCreek@eHammersmith.com and/or the Board members via links on www.pcva.org.

Thank you in advance for your vigilance.

811 Before You Dig

4/25/2020

If you plan to dig anywhere, from home projects to large construction jobs, you must contact 811 before you dig. Thousands of miles of pipeline, wires and cables for critical services such as electricity, natural gas, water, sewage, communications and utilities are located underground. Damaging these lines could result in large utility outages, expensive repair costs, and could cause injury, and even death.

Living with wildlife

4/23/2020

Wildlife can be found in and around the urban areas of Colorado’s fast-growing Front Range. As Colorado Springs and its neighboring communities continue to grow and expand, subdivision development impacts wildlife habitat and wild animals are often displaced. Some species continue to live in open space areas, parks, undeveloped parcels of land, river bottoms, and on or near bodies of water. Others have adapted well to urban living; skunks and raccoons, in particular, appear to thrive around urban environments. In most circumstances, people and wildlife can coexist but the key is to remember that wildlife are not pets; they are wild animals. Most dangerous and potentially harmful encounters with wildlife occur because people fail to leave the animals alone.

Preventing wildlife encounters
-Do not feed wildlife.
-Keep pet food inside.
-Cover window wells with grates, wire, or plastic covers.
-Fill gaps or holes around the foundation of your residence to eliminate a place for animals to live.
-Seal all cracks and holes larger than ¼ inch in diameter to keep rats, mice, bats, and snakes out of a structure.
-Screen fireplace chimneys, and furnace, attic and dryer vents, and keep dampers closed to prevent wildlife entry.
-Bury wire mesh one to two feet deep to prevent animals from burrowing in unwanted areas.
-Store garbage in metal or plastic containers with tight-fitting lids, inside a garage or shed.
-Mark windows with strips of white tape or with raptor silhouettes to help prevent birds from flying into windows.
-Fence gardens and pick fruit from trees before it ripens and clean up fallen fruit.
-Keep bird feeders out of reach.
-Burn food off grills and clean after each use.
-Keep windows and doors closed and locked, including residence, garage, and vehicle doors.
-Do not leave food, trash, coolers, air fresheners, or anything that smells in your vehicle.
