SpringsView Shares Property Photos

11/26/2022

The City has an aerial map program called SpringsView. This program provides an aerial photo of properties within the City of Colorado Springs. There is a variety of information available within the program including base zoning and overlays, parks, schools, topography, development plans, etc. Each layer may be turned on or off depending on which type of information is needed. You may zoom in and out to a particular area with the cursor or identify a specific property by typing in the tax schedule number or address.

811 Before You Dig

9/29/2022

Know what's below. It's free. It's easy. It's the law.

If you plan to dig anywhere, from home projects to large construction jobs, you must contact 811 before you dig. Thousands of miles of pipeline, wires and cables for critical services such as electricity, natural gas, water, sewage, communications and other utilities are located underground. Damaging these lines could result in large utility outages, expensive repair costs, and could cause injury or even death.

811 Before You Dig. Call 8-1-1, or visit Colorado811.org at least three business days before you dig.
Colorado 811 will notify affected utility owners of your intent to dig. Be sure to provide access to the property, ensuring gates are unlocked and pets are secured until the locates have been completed. If there is a problem with access, a meet request may be processed to ensure accessibility.

Mountain Lion Awareness

5/27/2022

In Colorado, there are between 3,000 and 7,000 mountain lions, and while encounters remain rare, there have been sightings in Colorado Springs, to include near the Memorial-North Hospital.

Do you know what to do if you encounter a mountain lion?
  • Do not approach a lion, especially one that is feeding or with kittens. Most mountain lions will try to avoid a confrontation. Give them a way to escape.
  • Stay calm when you come upon a lion. Talk calmly and firmly to it. Move slowly.
  • Stop or back away slowly, if you can do it safely. Running may stimulate a lion's instinct to chase and attack. Face the lion and stand upright.
  • Do all you can to appear larger. Raise your arms. Open your jacket if you're wearing one. If you have small children with you, protect them by picking them up so they won't panic and run.
  • If the lion behaves aggressively, throw stones, branches or whatever you can get your hands on without crouching down or turning your back. Wave your arms slowly and speak firmly. What you want to do is convince the lion you are not prey and that you may in fact be a danger to the lion.
  • Fight back if a lion attacks you. Lions have been driven away by prey that fights back. People have fought back with rocks, sticks, caps or jackets, garden tools and their bare hands successfully. Remain standing or try to get back up!

How can I be ready for an emergency?

5/15/2022

Prepare for Emergencies
  • Know Your Risks. Make Your Plan. Improve Your Outcome.
  • Prepare for emergencies before the crisis or disaster impacts your family or the community.
  • The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management provides great resource to help residents get ready for a bad day. Topics include:
    • Know Your hazards (flash flooding, wildfire, severe winter weather)
    • Sign up for Emergency Alerts. Not all emergency alerts provide the same information so it’s important to understand the types of alerts out there and what they provide.
    • Make a Plan. Creating plans for family communications, loved ones with special needs, household matters, financial documents and evacuation are all part of being well prepared.
    • Build A Kit. A disaster supplies kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.
  • Visit the site for in-depth discussion and handy checklists at https://coloradosprings.gov/office-emergency-management/page/preparedness

Plan to Evacuate BEFORE You Must
  • Many kinds of emergencies can cause you to have to evacuate. In some cases, you may have a day or two to prepare while other situations might call for an immediate evacuation. Planning is vital to making sure that you can evacuate quickly and safely no matter what the circumstances.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has many resources at its site to help plan for emergencies year-round, 24/7.
