The first is installing a stormwater detention pond to attenuate flood flows in Pine Creek. The pond is located directly south of the Pine Creek Golf Course irrigation pond. Some preliminary construction work has started and is just finishing up to stop the creek damage from continuing upstream. A steel sheet pile was installed across the creek to stabilize the bottom of the creek and reduce further damage. The City is anticipating constructing the detention pond downstream of the sheet pile starting in the beginning of 2019.
The second project under design is to stabilize the Pine Creek channel upstream of Chapel Hills Drive to the golf cart path crossing adjacent to hole 10 green. This project is partially funded by a FEMA grant to the City and will stabilize the creek and reduce the amount of sediment eroded downstream. The City anticipates this project will start construction in the beginning of 2019 and happen concurrent with the upstream detention pond project.
Based on a Drainage Basin Planning Study (DBPS) process, the project addresses needed improvements. Learn more at coloradosprings.gov/dbps
