Do Not Leave Unattended Vehicles Running

11/28/2021

Unattended Running Vehicles "Puffing" Rules
  • Per Colorado law, you cannot leave an unattended vehicle running UNLESS it has a remote start and you take adequate security measures (i.e. the vehicle requires a key to put the vehicle into gear and move the vehicle; you keep the keyless start fob out of proximity of the vehicle;  or you employ a steering wheel security devices.)
  • Unattended running vehicles are very attractive to criminals.

Report It to The Police

11/28/2021

From the Colorado Springs Police Department: Just a quick reminder to report, report, report!
If you are the victim of a crime, such as a burglarized motor vehicle, please make sure to report it to us. Many citizens have stated they don’t want to report their burglarized motor vehicle because nothing was taken. As law enforcement we rely on that information to make sure we are aware of any potential crime patterns. With this information we can get resources in place to deter future criminal activity and possibly catch the bad guy. If we aren’t notified that a crime has taken place we won’t be able to help!
  • Call 911 for emergencies, and 444-7000 for non-emergency events.
  • Learn more about calling 9-1-1 at https://coloradosprings.gov/sites/default/files/police/records_id/911_web_sheet.pdf
  • You can also report non-urgent crimes online at https://coloradosprings.gov/police-department/page/report-crime-online
  • Remember, criminals are relying on you to not report their activity. DON’T HELP THEM OUT! Let’s work together to keep Colorado Springs safe!
